I am currently sitting in the AOL media booth, compliments of Stylist.com in the heart of the madness at fashion week. It is day two for me and I've already seen two incredible shows, Luca Luca and Ruffian. Polar opposites in style and composition, but utterly amazing in their own right. I'll be covering all of this a bit later. For now, my main focus is enjoying the moment and the experience of being completely immersed in my one true love, (husband excluded). The mere energy in the building is enough to keep all of us caffeine-deficient, sleep-deprived nuts from crashing in corners for a little shut eye. But in case you aren't getting the rush, Diet Coke, Diet Pepsi, and mocha light Frappuchios are abound for your taking. Mercedes-Benz is the obvious sponsor, however booths by Maybellne, TREsemme, DHL, and Kim Crwford wine (counting down til 2 when they start serving) are scattered around the tent.
So I have to admit, I love freebies. I went through a stage last year where I spent far too many hours on the computer giving my email and personal mailing address to companies that would send free stuff in the mail. I forced myself to quit when i was elated when I received a personal sized box of cereal. Seriously one of my lows. With that being said, I have to admit that I have been soaking up the freebies surrounding NYFW. Free hair products via TREsesmme and make-up via Maybelline, love it. Yesterday I attended an event at the Empire where the goody bag was rather exciting. Perhaps only to use fellow freebie-loving fools. Eyelash extensions, nail kits, hair bands, earrings, and random beauty products made their way into my arms like a kid at a toy store. It's a bad obsession as I'm even taking the free stuff that I may not even use... But most promise to find good homes for the ones that dont make the cut.
But back to the experience. This room is full of the most interesting and creative souls. Photographers and bloggers snapping pics at everyone and everything, exchanging cards and networking with people that clearly have similar interests. Everywhere you look, you are inspired. There is definitely the handful of pretentious peeps thinking they are the most important person in the room, but to me, it is simply laughable. To me the most important people aren't necessarily the ones that can afford the 2K ensembles and the daily blowout and professional make-up apps, but the ones that thrive off the energy of the madness. The ones that are thrilled to be involved and to be immersed in an entire building of "their kind." The ones whose hearts skip a beat when the lights dim and the show begins. The ones who on day two are already dreading the end. The fashion junkies. The creatively obsessed and the ones that wish they could bottle up this feeling for a gloomy day. So being one of those people, i must run and go enjoy the moment. Stay tuned.
