Yesterday was day three of fashion week and by far one of my favorite experiences. After meeting up with a dear friend, Margaret, we ventured into the ADAM show, a beautiful collection of gorgeous sweaters, innovative plaids, and luscious lace tees. You never would have known that only three weeks ago, the tiny little shop in Uruguay that creates a large majority of his chunky knits, burned to the ground taking a hefty portion of his Fall 2011 collection with it. A local knitting circle came to the rescue, replicating his designs. The result was beautiful. Subtle Native American influences were seen throughout the collection of perfectly tailored pieces, and I had a fantastic seat.

Next we headed to the American Express Skybox, an exclusive suite with the added luxury of complimentary champagne, cupcakes via Baked by Melissa, and other amazing light bites. We grabbed a couple apps and a glass of bubbly just prior to Adam Lippes himself walking into the box for an exclusive interview. A mere 30 or so lucky guests had the opportunity to sit and discuss the collection and inspiration with the designer himself. A 15 minute interview consisted of everything from the designer's background, the highlights of his careers, and details of the main inspiration behind the Fall 2011 collection. I captured the last 8 minutes on my voice recorder, which you can listen to at the bottom of this post. After the interview with Adam, Margaret and I were able to steal a few minutes of Adam's time to sing his praises and snap a few pics.

-Went to Cornell and then traveled to Paris. Always wanted to be a fashion designer but his parents made him come home from Paris for an internship with Bear Stearns. He then decided to get a job at a Ralph Lauren retail store. When his boss went to Oscar de la Renta, Adam went along. From there his career started.
-Oprah showcased Adam's tees on her Favorite Things show. The interest was so strong that his site crashed with over 2 million new hits in a day.
-Remarks on the importance of the CFDA, especially commenting on the importance of keeping the fashion district in New York.
-Loves being able to create and change. He enjoys traveling and discovering new things that he can transfer into women's looks and life.
-On his Fall 2011 collection: shoes were a collaboration with Manolo Blahnik. Influenced by Native Americans after a walk through the Native American Museum. Left the museum inspired by the fabrics and textiles which he has not translated onto the woman.
-What is the most important additions to your wardrobe right now? According to Adam, it is color and high-waisted pants. So hit the stores ladies....
Hah! Love it! Lucky girls...I knew I shoulda gone up there this weekend! AHHH
